FRIDA FEST
After Hours Presents: Frida Fest
Wednesday, July 8th | 5pm–8pm
Join us for an evening inspired by the art, style, color, and spirit of Frida Kahlo.
We’ll have palomas + mocktails, local makers and sellers, and live portraits by a local artist (stay tuned for announcements!)
Giddy to announce neighborhood hotties Sneaky Link Permanent Jewelry will be popping up! And our bestie White Tiger Woman will be here showing off her upcycled bolo ties! D Guzman Illustration will be joining us, you know her from the mural across the street!
We’ll also be collecting pads and tampons for the Nine Lives Pantry and donation partners at Neighborhood House. Guests are encouraged to bring supplies if they’re able.
Inspired by Frida’s legacy of activism and self-expression, we’ll also have a postcard-writing station where guests can write friendly reminders encouraging registered voters to participate in upcoming elections.
And yes - there will absolutely be a Frida-inspired style contest. Florals, vintage fashion, bold jewelry, maximalism, braids, color, self-expression - we want to see your interpretation. Come dressed like wearable art.

Find Nine Lives Thrift at Bad Weather Brewing’s Bluegrass Block Party on Saturday, July 18 from 12–8 PM. We’ll be bringing a curated rack of secondhand clothing and a little Nine Lives magic down West 7th.
The event includes live bluegrass, local vendors, food and drink specials, family-friendly fun, and more.

Full Circle Fashion is coming July 31st ✨♻️
A juried upcycled & secondhand fashion show + pop-up celebrating circular fashion, local creativity, and clothing that deserves more than one season.
Hosted at Theater in the Round in Minneapolis, the show will feature curated runway collections from local secondhand shops, upcycled designers, and wearable art creators — plus a pop-up market where guests can shop everything from thrifted everyday staples to one-of-a-kind couture pieces.
This year’s theme, “Summer into Fall,” encourages us to rethink “seasonal fashion” and explore how favorite pieces can evolve, layer, and last longer.

Community Mending Nights at Nine Lives
We got a grant from Fort Road Federation to host free Mending Meetups/Mend Along Clinics in June at Nine Lives on 6/1 from 6-8:30pm Kristen from RETHINK and Bethany Mae will be your hosts.
🪡Whether you have experience and want to sew in community, OR want to bring a project that needs a little guidance, make sure to RSVP (link in bio) to this free event to save your spot. Save the dates for 6/8, 6/22, and 6/29.
Bethany holds a BFA from Syracuse University (2008) in Costume Design. Her mother taught her to sew as a child, having come from a lineage of master dressmakers. Bethany Mae grew up collecting and later selling vintage clothing, consuming Vogue and replicating photoshoots for her Barbies.
She moved to Los Angeles in 2009, there working in the Film Industry as a hair and makeup artist simultaneously designing and making costumes for theaters.
At the end of 2018, Bethany moved back to Minneapolis and has been organizing events, teaching art through therapeutic techniques and hosting beginning sewing classes while also raising a beautiful child and connecting deeper with our mother earth.

For the third time, Don't Tell Comedy is taking over Nine Lives for a secret stand-up comedy show on Saturday, May 23rd at 7:30 PM.
Known for hosting comedy shows in unexpected spaces, Don’t Tell transforms our little thrift store into an intimate pop-up venue featuring a surprise lineup of comedians. Tickets and lineup information are available through Don’t Tell Comedy. Expect laughs, good energy, and a very unique night at Nine Lives.

How it works:
• Bring one bag of clean, ready-to-wear clothing

“I created this aura photography experience to help you see yourself in a new light (literally!) Using a Polaroid camera and hand sensors, I capture the vibration of your electromagnetic field.
Taking your photo is the easy part; the real divination begins when we uncover the meaning of your aura’s colors and how they change over time, like an elevated mood ring.
